Introducing the Grand Bargain Project: A Collective Path to a Stronger America
We’ve just experienced a pivotal election, one that brought a wide range of emotions, opinions, and hopes from every corner of the country.
We’ve just experienced a pivotal election, one that brought a wide range of emotions, opinions, and hopes from every corner of the country. While elections come and go, the challenges that impact our daily lives—economic stability, healthcare, education, and more—remain urgent and pressing. At the Grand Bargain Project, we believe that most Americans, regardless of political affiliation, agree on a common goal: a desire for meaningful solutions that can secure a better future for all.
The Grand Bargain Project was created to turn this desire into action. As a nonpartisan organization, our mission is to unite Americans across divides to address six key issues that over 90% of Americans agree that at least one of are critical to our nation’s future. These issues aren’t merely points of discussion—they are the foundations of a prosperous, secure, and fair society, and addressing them together is the best way to achieve lasting progress.
- Economic Opportunity and Growth: It is harder today for most people to get a good job and raise a family than it was 30 years ago. As the costs of housing, child care, higher education, and healthcare rise, the American Dream is increasingly out of reach. We need to make the economy more productive and help people gain skills and opportunities for success.
- Education: Many Americans lack the skills to get ahead in a high-tech economy. We need to improve education from the earliest years through higher ed, so students can reach their full potential and meaningfully contribute to their communities and the economy.
- Healthcare: In the US, healthcare costs almost twice as much as in other wealthy countries, but we have the worst health outcomes in the developed world. Medicare and Medicaid are a rapidly growing share of the Federal budget and boosting the national debt to unsustainable levels. We need to make healthcare more effective and less costly.
- Clean Energy & Climate: Extreme weather is hurting the economy, people and the environment. We need to stabilize the climate by transitioning to clean energy in ways that improve the economy for all.
- National Debt & Budget: Federal spending has been rising much faster than revenue. If the debt keeps growing as a share of our country’s total output, we will eventually need to make big cuts in critical programs and/or boost taxes to levels that could crush the economy. To have a brighter future, we need to raise revenue, invest in education and research, while spending money in other areas more efficiently.
- Taxes: The tax code includes 75,000 pages of confusing rules. It gives the biggest benefits to those with the most money. We need to make it simpler and fairer.
In effect, a grand bargain focusing on these six issues could unite far more of the country than anything else has in recent times. These issues are at the heart of what it means to create opportunity and stability for all Americans. This is more than just coming together—it’s about getting Americans to actively work together to build the society we want.
Building Solutions, Not Sides
The Grand Bargain Project isn’t focused on promoting one political side over another. Real progress depends on a practical approach that invites everyone to be part of the solution. We have brought together former policymakers, experts and diverse citizens to collaborate on real, common-sense reforms that prioritize these issues in ways that benefit all of us.
Tackling these six issues together, as a unified effort, gives us a powerful opportunity to create a shared future. It requires every one of us to buy into the process and, where possible, to be open to compromise for the greater good. By fostering open dialogue and inviting people from all perspectives, we are creating a space where Americans can see beyond political divides and focus on the concrete steps needed to achieve progress.
Working Together for Change
At the heart of the Grand Bargain Project is a commitment to practical collaboration. Our movement invites Americans from all walks of life to bring their voices, ideas, and experiences to the table. This isn’t about quick fixes; it’s about making deliberate, impactful decisions that create a foundation for real progress. The more we work together, the more we build a culture of constructive collaboration that benefits everyone.
A Shared Future
The Grand Bargain Project offers hope for Americans who want to see positive, lasting change in their communities. It’s about setting aside divisions and tackling the issues that affect us all.
We invite you to explore the Grand Bargain Project and join us in creating a better, stronger future—one that serves everyone, not just today but for generations to come.
